A dramatic rise in the construction of apartments has encouraged further development of tile adhesive and sound proofing systems which reduce levels of impact sound. Construction Chemicals manufactures Acoustibond, a two-pack cement-based tile adhesive which has excellent sound proofing properties.

Installation of ceramic tiles (or timber) in 3 to 4mm of Acoustibond over 6mm of Acoustiflor sound proofing, will reduce impact sound by approximately 15 points. This provides a flat substrate which should eliminate tile-lipping. Fully bonded acoustic systems avoid problems associated with acoustic mats which may disbond and cause drumminess.
