Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out in the flooring industry, Carpet One gives you more than just a name—it gives you an edge. As a member-owned cooperative, it’s built for business owners who want the best of both worlds: the freedom to run their store their way, backed by national buying power, expert support, and a network of like-minded retailers.
No cookie-cutter store designs. No restrictive rules. Just the resources, guidance, and flexibility to help you grow on your terms. As a Carpet One member, you’re not just joining a group—you’re shaping its future. But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what our members have to say about their journey so far…
Mark Dee – Dubbo, NSW
Mark joined Carpet One 21 years ago after reading an article like this in a flooring magazine. Reflecting on his journey, he shares how Carpet One has been instrumental in his business success:
“The group never dictated how I should run my business; instead, they provided the support and resources to help me succeed. From the beginning, fellow members took the time to share insights, guiding my growth. The networking within Carpet One has been a key driver in my success, allowing me to learn and thrive alongside like-minded business owners.
Carpet One has given us the freedom to focus on our businesses while benefiting from the strength of national scale. Our groups growth has been organic, driven by quality members who continually strengthen the group. But beyond business, Carpet One is like a family—growing while other groups are shrinking. With a focus on new members and succession planning, we are investing in the future, knowing that as the group expands, so does our collective success.
Being part of this cooperative isn’t just about financial gain; it’s about protecting our interests and enhancing our market position. The Carpet One brand adds value in every aspect of my business, ensuring steady growth and a stronger market presence. If you’re in retail flooring and wondering what’s next—thinking about better profits and a stronger future—think cooperative. Think Carpet One.”
Bessim Saad – Preston, VIC
Bessim, who joined in 2024, calls it one of his best investments. “After exploring several retail groups, Carpet One stood out. They provided tailored support and training, and the assistance from other members was invaluable. The central team genuinely cares about my success. I’m not just another retailer in a corporate structure—I’m a valued business owner with a say in how the cooperative grows.
“From the moment I joined, I felt like part of a family. I’m not just another retailer in a corporate structure—I’m a valued business owner with a say in how the cooperative grows. Within my first year, I’ve exceeded my budget expectations and know I made the right move.”
Ian Bloomfield – Townsville, QLD
A long-standing member and former board chair, Ian highlights the cooperative’s focus on members’ success. “For over 30 years, Carpet One has consistently prioritized local profits over head office gains. The support from the central team enhances my business while giving me the freedom to refine my operations. The real bonus? Shareholder returns. Our collective strength makes us more profitable. We are stronger together, and that’s what makes this cooperative so valuable. I wouldn’t consider any other brand partner.”
Jane & Stephen Knibbs – Margate, TAS
Longtime independent retailers, Jane and Stephen found value in joining the cooperative. “After 20+ years as independents, we saw the benefits of a cooperative, joining in 2024. Carpet One strengthened supplier relationships expanded our marketing reach and enhanced our online presence. The transition was smooth, and the support reassured us of the group’s integrity.
We’ve always been passionate about our business, the collaboration with other members and access to shared knowledge has been incredible. Our only regret….. Maybe it’s not joining 15 years ago.’
Brett Haddock – Engadine, NSW
Brett sought a change from a corporate model and found the perfect fit with Carpet One. “I was already running a successful business but disliked the corporate structure of my previous group. Carpet One aligned with my values, provided strong branding for my local business, and increased my profitability. The freedom to make my own decisions while having national backing made this an easy decision. It is a no Brainer”
Mel Shelton & Nathan Baum – Bendigo, VIC
Nathan shares how Carpet One’s flexibility has fuelled their growth. “We’ve been in business for over 40 years and with Carpet One for 25. Diversifying beyond carpets, we’ve built ‘The Bendigo Floor & Home Centre.’
Carpet One’s model allowed us to maintain our brand while benefiting from national strength. Unlike rigid structures, Carpet One supports innovation. Carpet One supports our vision, allowing us to innovate and create a store that truly resonates with our customers. We wouldn’t have had the same success if we were locked into a traditional brand structure. We get the best of both worlds, strong local and national partner brands and independence. We get the best of both worlds, strong local and national partner brands and independence.”
Hayden Shrive – South Adelaide, SA
Hayden, a former installer turned retail owner, praises the transition. “Since joining in 2024, the support has been fantastic. Carpet One made my shift to retail ownership seamless. The Queensland team and local members provided invaluable advice and guidance. One of the most exciting aspects is the networking opportunities within the group. I’m looking forward to my first national event this year, where I know I will gain insights and ideas from other successful members. Having such a strong community behind me is a game changer.”
Damien O’Connor – Wonthaggi, VIC
Damien joined in 2023, seeking a flexible brand to complement his existing business. “I had experience with other retail brands but wanted a partner that supported my business direction without dictating operations. Carpet One offered exactly that. The biggest draw? The type of business owners Carpet One attracts—people who prioritize family-first values, financial well-being, and genuine support. The head office is focused on bettering members and their families, making this the perfect partnership.”
Carpet One Cooperative: Strength in Numbers
Carpet One is a member-owned cooperative and part of the CCA Global Partners network, supporting over 2,000 retailers worldwide. It gives independent flooring businesses the best of both worlds—freedom to run their own way while benefiting from shared expertise and buying power to stay competitive.
How It All Started
Back in the early 1980s, a group of Aussie entrepreneurs formed the ‘Carpet Consortium’ to strengthen their buying power. In 1994, some of them attended a U.S. trade show and connected with Carpet One, the world’s largest flooring cooperative. This led to a licensing agreement, bringing Carpet One to Australasia.
Why It Matters
Thinking about joining the flooring industry or growing your business? Carpet One could be the smartest move you make. With a strong support network, buying power, and shared knowledge, you’ll have everything you need to succeed—your way.
